ABOUT

Freelance Project

March 25, 2020 - April 10, 2020

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, while I was just 16, my family’s business needed to shut down. To keep sales going, I created a Square Site to do drive through cider & donut sales. This not only extended our season by one month, but brought the community of St. Johns together in a safe and unique way.

STEPS

1 Community Need

2 Execution

community need

A pillar of the community

Uncle John’s Cider Mill is a pillar of the St. Johns community. We were lucky enough for the pandemic to hit during our off season, but it still hurt. Instead of sitting it out, we tried to pivot. I came up with the idea of doing a drive through system, where people could place orders online and we could load the goods into their vehicle. The plan worked great, and we were able to keep off season employees with hours and create an enjoyable experience for not only the staff, but the community as well.

Execution

IT’s old, but still there

I taught myself the Square website builder in about 2 weeks. I didn’t even own my own computer at the time, so I had to snag my mother’s to get any work done. Much of the UX/UI already existed within the builder, so I was in charge of making sure all of our products existed in the site. I searched for product photos, made sure stock was connected to our Square business account, and taught everyone else how to update the site and understand the order tickets.

The site does technically exist still, but it is lost a bit to time. We no longer use it as there is currently no need, but it does work still just in case we ever need it.
